Tracktech Marketing Director, Tim Corke, recently took part in an article for Comms Business Magazine to discuss the growth of mobile apps in 2010.

Mobile applications are one of the fastest growing, most exciting areas on the mobile scene . A recent study by Forrester Consulting found that North American enterprises can achieve a three year return on investment of up to more than 2800%, simply by expanding mobile device and app usage. The study also found that business efficiency benefits increase dramatically as organisations expand the number of enterprise apps deployed over BlackBerry smartphones that address the needs of their users.

Our Alliance partner community accelerates the innovation we deliver to customers. With the launch of the EMEA Alliance Program Innovation Awards we recognise those partners that have excelled in delivering true differentiation to the BlackBerry platform.

RIM recognises a diverse range of Alliance Partner innovation – from public to private sector, from small businesses to consumers – and our EMEA Innovation Awards also recognise members that have excelled in delivering customer delight and differentiation of the BlackBerry platform. This year we have expanded the consumer awards to three categories to reflect our growing community and reward our partner’s efforts in making the most of the consumer experience on BlackBerry.

We encourage all BlackBerry Alliance Program members to apply for awards that highlight their strengths. The application or service must be in market and deployed with a customer to qualify for an award.

Commercial Wireless, Ireland's leading independent distributor of mobile communications devices, has acquired a minority shareholding in UK mobile technology firm, Tracktech.

Commercial Wireless – Ireland ’s leading independent distributor of mobile communications devices – has acquired a minority shareholding in UK mobile technology firm, Tracktech. Under the terms of the transaction, which have not been fully disclosed, Commercial Wireless has retained the option to acquire Tracktech outright, based on the achievement of agreed revenue and profitability targets .

The deal underlines Commercial Wireless’ plans to target the UK market. While Tracktech will continue to trade under its own name in the short term, Commercial Wireless plans to establish a full operating subsidiary in the UK later this year .

Derek McDonald, CEO, Commercial Wireless, said the transaction had arisen because of the need for the company to set up a UK base to serve its customers operating in the British market, and because of the close fit between the two organisations. ‘Tracktech’s business is very closely aligned with our own, but they also develop bespoke application software for their customers, which is a good add-on to our business’ .

Commercial Wireless has grown significantly by acquisition in recent years. Earlier this year, the company took over the Irish operations of multinational technology services company, A NOVO. In 2005, the company acquired Cork-based mobile phone distributor Choice Communications and was named O2 Business Dealer of the Year.

Tracktech Marketing Director, Tim Corke, added “The recent agreement between Tracktech and Commercial Wireless will open up an expansive set of opportunities for both companies. We have been approached on more than one occasion over the last 12 months by different companies expressing an interest in having a formal shareholding/ownership of the business. However, until we met Commercial Wireless, we had chosen not to accept any of these offers because we didn’t believe these businesses had the same vision of the future as we did.

“Due to the extensive range of applications we have developed for current customers, we believe that engaging with the existing Commercial Wireless customer base will give us a faster route to market whilst, in parallel to that, offering Commercial Wireless customers an excellent level of service in the UK to match that which they already receive in Ireland. This offers excellent growth opportunities to both companies on both sides of the Irish Sea.”

Tracktech have already begun recruiting key new staff throughout the business to cater for the rapid growth they are experiencing both with the Commercial Wireless as well as the revolutionary new applications they are bringing to the market in 2008.

Tracktech recently attended the 'The Rural and Coastal Communities Conference' held at the Eden Project in Cornwall to discuss the benefits of mobile technologies.

As a Yes Telecom Gold Business Partner, Tracktech regularly pair up with staff from Yes to provide a strong message to businesses and clients. On this particular occasion, the two companies ran a stand together at the Rural and Coastal Communities Conference which was held at the Eden Project in Cornwall.

This conference provided a forum for all people with an interest in legal advice services in rural and coastal communities. The event was attended by the Legal Aid Minister and senior members of the Legal Services Commission.

Tracktech and Yes Telecom joined other delegates to share experiences and ideas for improving access to legal advice. There was an exciting and productive exploration of issues and solutions on the day and Tracktech/Yes helped support this – all in the setting of one of Cornwall’s most imaginative and attractive venues.

A report will soon be published on the conference overall and a link will be added to this site when that report is available. In the mean time, please view the LSC Website for further information – www.legalservices.gov.uk
